Waldorf Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Students Has Tested Positive for HIV

Carlos Deangelo Bell in Waldorf, Maryland has been arrested after accusations of sexually abusing numerous students, who he coached. The story is catching headlines due to the fact that he is HIV-positive.

Felony charges have been filed against him for child pornography production and misdemeanor counts for second-degree assault. Investigators are not commenting on whether or not the charges are finished. It is possible that more evidence discovered in the future could add more charges to the list. The investigation that led to his arrest is said to have lasted for half a year. The two schools that employed Bell – one as a track coach and another as a student aide – terminated his employment when the investigative probe began in December 2016.

As a precaution, given Mr. Bell’s health condition, the alleged victims are undergoing medical tests for HIV. So far, no results have come up positive, according to police investigators. An unreleased number of students will still need testing. If an alleged victim does test positive for HIV, this could escalate Bell’s charges, or create new charges against him.

Investigators claim to have begun the probe into Bell’s activities after a parent read sexually driven text messages sent back and forth between Bell and their child. A look into the account and others uncovered sexual images of Bell with students.
