Associate Nikoletta Mendrinos Volunteers for Reading Partners

As a firm, Murphy, Falcon & Murphy has a long tradition of community service and supporting worthy causes. Now, Associate Niki Mendrinos is adding her own unique chapter to this history.

In addition to a busy home life and commitments here at the firm, Mendrinos has recently signed on to volunteer with Reading Partners-a group dedicated to improving reading proficiency among Baltimore City Public School students from low-income areas.

Mendrinos feels strongly about Reading Partners and their commitment to helping Baltimore children succeed. She also considers them one of the more successful academic support programs in the city, citing the fact that 91% of Reading Partners Baltimore students accelerated their rate of learning in reading, and 71% of Reading Partners Baltimore students narrowed their literacy gaps with their peers who read at grade level.

She believes the ability to read quickly and accurately is a critical part to a person’s long-term success, but, unfortunately, it is a skill that is often overlooked. In fact, if not addressed immediately at a young age, a student’s reading competency gets progressively worse, and by the time she graduates, it’s increasingly difficult to remedy.

When organizations like Reading Partners work to correct this, they allow children to make smart, informed decisions in major areas of their lives (career choices, purchasing a house and/or a car, health care issues, retirement, investments, etc.). By building healthy, sustainable reading habits, these students will have a better chance at succeeding in life.

The firm is proud of the commitment Niki is making, and are striving to support her any way we can.
