Award-winning author Ta-Nehisi Coates will bring his new book tour to Baltimore in October, where he will be joined by special guest, Billy Murphy. Coates is scheduled to discuss his forthcoming novel, “The Water Dancer,” with Billy Murphy at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore on Oct. 10, 2019.
Ta-Nehisi Coates is a national correspondent for “The Atlantic” and the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller “Between the World and Me”, a National Book Award winner. A MacArthur “Genius Grant” fellow, Coates has received the National Magazine Award, the Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism, and the George Polk Award for his Atlantic cover story “The Case for Reparations.”
His highly anticipated novel “The Water Dancer” is due out in late September, published by Random House imprint One World. The novel describes a 19th century African American man with extraordinary powers, Hiram Walker, and his journey through and escaping slavery.
A portion of the ticket sale proceeds for the conversation between Coates and Murphy will benefit the William and Madeline Murphy Scholarship Foundation; which provides scholarships to University of Maryland Law School students.
With this foundation, the Murphy family hopes to encourage the motivated and passionate individuals who will make great changes in the lives of others. It is the best way to both honor the Murphy family legacy, and help ensure there is continued access to the best legal advocates.
