Founding Partner Judge Billy Murphy Named Keynote Speaker for FDCC Trial Masters Program
The program will run in conjunction with the FDCC's annual meeting and will focus on overcoming the difficulties an attorney may face while representing clients in the "impossible case"-those stymied by dislikeable defendants and disagreeable juries.
Judge Murphy will discuss litigating these types of cases from both a plaintiffs' and defendants' perspective, and the advantages a trial lawyer can gain from understanding the needs and goals of both.
It's a topic of great interest to Judge Murphy, who has spent decades taking on cases that span the legal spectrum. Perhaps most notable is Judge Murphy's storied career as a criminal defense lawyer, one marked by acquittal rates that dwarf the national averages for federal and state jury trials. He is also deeply involved in Murphy Falcon & Murphy's plaintiff work, advocating for patients injured by medical negligence and individuals whose civil rights have been violated.
Murphy is undeniably a trial lawyer at heart, and is widely sought after for his courtroom acuity, creative cross-examinations and deft arguments. While successfully pursuing justice on behalf of individuals, he has also garnered numerous victories while serving as counsel for a number of corporate heavyweights, including Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, H&R Block and Honeywell. He is among only three African American attorneys in the country-including former Secretary of Transportation William Coleman, Jr. and white collar defense attorney Ted Wells-to have served as lead counsel for corporations in billion dollar litigation. Even noted trial attorneys Johnnie Cochran and Willie Gary cannot lay claim to this elite distinction.
Seeing cases from both the plaintiff and defense side has given Judge Murphy a unique vantage point that he continues to employ in representing his diverse group of clients.
Judge Murphy is honored to present this tactical knowledge before the FDCC. With 1,300 members throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia, it is regarded as the singular professional organization for defense lawyers and corporate counsel alike. The FDCC is dedicated to professional development and education, which not only strengthens the scholarship of its members, but of the legal profession as a whole.
